The early church in Acts is often remembered for its generosity, worship, and fellowship. Yet beneath all these practices lies something deeper: they were being woven together into a new kind of community. They devoted themselves to prayer, shared their resources, gathered at table, and praised God together. Thread by thread, God was creating a tapestry of belonging.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus reveals the pattern that holds the whole fabric together: “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.” This love is not merely affection or agreement. It is self-giving, patient, and sacrificial. It is the love Jesus demonstrated by kneeling to wash feet, welcoming the outsider, and ultimately laying down his life.
Communities are not woven together by programs, buildings, or shared opinions alone. They are woven together by acts of love repeated day after day. ly to gather together, but to be woven together by the love of Christ, so that the world may glimpse God’s presence in the fabric of our common life.
