The parable of the wheat and the weeds is one of Jesus’ most patient teachings. There are no quick fixes, tidy answers, or the illusion that discipleship means living in a world neatly sorted into good and bad. Instead, Jesus describes a field where wheat and weeds grow tangled together, roots intertwined, sharing the same soil and sunlight. The servants want to pull the weeds immediately, to purify the field, to fix what looks wrong. But the master says no. Let them grow together until the harvest.
For a disciple, this is both humbling and liberating.
It is humbling because Jesus acknowledges that we cannot always tell the difference between what is holy and what is harmful, what is growing toward God and what is not. The parable reminds us that God alone sees clearly, God alone judges rightly, and God alone knows how to separate what must be kept from what must be burned away
