Sunday Preview-How do we care for creation and one another?

A vineyard is a tender place. It needs care and the humility to remember that its fruit is never ours alone. In Matthew 21:33–46, Jesus tells a story of tenants who forget this truth. They grasp, they hoard, they harm believing the vineyard belongs to them rather than to the One who planted it. The tragedy is not only their violence, but their fear of losing control, fear of sharing abundance, fear of recognizing the presence of God in the messengers sent to them.

Jesus’ parable invites us to ask: What have we been entrusted with, and how are we tending it? This weekend, as we gather for the Blessing of the Animals, we remember another vineyard entrusted to us: the living world. Our creatures, great and small, furry and feathered, are not ours to own but companions given to us in love. They teach us gentleness, presence, and joy. They remind us that creation itself is a gift, and that we are tenants called to nurture, protect, and delight in the life around us.
