In the passage from Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus exposes the difference between saying the right words and living a faithful life. The religious leaders demand to know his authority, yet their hearts remain closed to God’s movement. Jesus’ parable of the two sons makes the point clear: the one who initially refused but later went to work in the vineyard is the one who truly did the father’s will.
God honors honest turning. Even if our first response is hesitation or resistance, what matters is the movement of the heart — the willingness to step into the work of love, justice, and compassion. Jesus reminds us that those who recognize truth and change direction, even after a difficult start, are already entering the kingdom.
This passage invites us to examine where our faith needs less talk and more practice, and to trust that God welcomes every sincere step toward the vineyard.
