Sunday Preview-Yes! Jesus Can Feed Five Thousand

posted in: Save the Date | 0

Jesus feeding the 5,000 begins with the simple, startling truth at the heart of the story: Jesus meets human need with abundance, not scarcity.

In the Gospel accounts, the disciples see only what is lacking, too many people, too little food, not enough time, not enough strength. Their instinct tells them to send the crowds away, because we don’t have enough to offer. But Jesus refuses that narrative. He asks them to bring forward what they do have, even if it seems embarrassingly small. Five loaves. Two fish. A child’s lunch. Something that looks like nothing in the face of overwhelming need.

And yet Jesus blesses the “not enough,” breaks it, and places it back into the disciples’ hands. The miracle happens not in the moment of blessing alone, but in the act of sharing, as the disciples move through the crowd, offering what they have received. In their giving, the abundance unfolds. Everyone eats. Everyone is satisfied. And there is more left over than what they began with.
