Jesus’ parable of the sower invites us to see our lives as landscapes where the Word of God seeks to take root. The sower is extravagant in scattering seed. He does not avoid the places that seem unlikely to bear fruit. He simply sows, trusting that somewhere, somehow, life will emerge.
Jesus names the realities we know so well: the hard-packed places in us where nothing seems able to grow; the rocky patches where enthusiasm fades; the thorny corners where worry and fear choke out hope; and the good soil sometimes small, where grace quietly is revealed..
The parable is not a test of worthiness but a revelation of God’s persistence. The Word keeps coming. The Sower keeps sowing. Even the soil that feels barren today may be softened tomorrow by mercy, by prayer, by the gentle work of the Spirit.
