John 11 brings us into one of the most intimate and revealing moments in Jesus’ ministry. Standing at the tomb of his friend Lazarus, surrounded by Mary, Martha, and a community undone by grief, Jesus does something astonishing, he cries. Before any miracle, before any proclamation of resurrection, the Son of God allows himself to be moved, deeply by human sorrow. His tears are a revelation. Jesus weeps because love grieves. In Jesus’ tears, we glimpse the heart of God, tender, present, moved by our grief, and committed to bringing life where we thought only loss remained.
