John 3:1–17 reveals Jesus inviting Nicodemus—and all of us—into the mystery of new birth that comes from the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus meets Nicodemus in the shadows of night, honoring his questions and telling him that life in God’s kingdom is not something we achieve but something we receive. This passage holds together two essential truths, our deep need for renewal and God’s unwavering desire to save rather than condemn. At its heart stands the promise that God’s love is not abstract but embodied in the Son who is “lifted up,” offering healing, freedom, and eternal life to all who trust in him.
