In Matthew 5, Jesus names His followers “you are the salt of the earth” and “you are the light of the world,” The word you is the focus in both verses. ” You are salt. You are light. Be who you already have been called to be and are capable, by the power of God, To be light is to participate in the identity of Christ, inviting us into a vocation that is both humble and radiant. Salt preserves, heals, and draws out flavor, quiet work that transforms from within. Light reveals what is true, pushes back fear, and helps others find their way.
Jesus isn’t asking us to become something we are not; He is reminding us of who we already are in Him. When we live with compassion, integrity, and courage, our ordinary lives become signs of God’s extraordinary grace. In a world hungry for hope and aching for clarity, even the smallest act of love can season a moment with God’s goodness and shine with the light of Christ.
