In Luke 14:25–33, Jesus speaks candidly to the gathered crowd, declaring that true discipleship requires radical commitment, even to the point of surrendering our closest relationships. Jesus challenges us to place our allegiance to Him above ties to parents, spouses, and children. This is not a call to literal rejection, but a summons to prioritize Christ above all else. Moreover, Jesus commands each of us to take up our own cross and follow Him. This path is not one of ease or comfort. Discipleship demands sacrifice, endurance, and unwavering devotion. It carries both cost and reward.
To walk this path faithfully, we need to reflect on three essential questions: How does one become a disciple of Christ? What are the responsibilities that come with discipleship? And how does one live out the covenant of discipleship in daily life? These questions invite us into deeper reflection, urging us to count the cost and embrace the transformative journey of following Christ.
