Jesus continues his mission towards Jerusalem, with many, including his disciples, joining him on this pilgrimage. Along the way, he heals and shares valuable lessons, often through parables. In Luke 14, Jesus emphasizes that showing kindness to those who cannot repay us and inviting the less fortunate to God’s banquet deepens our relationship with Him.
In a bold move, Jesus accepts a dinner invitation from the Pharisees, who were strict in their practices and often suspicious of him for breaking traditions. On the way to dinner, Jesus heals someone and challenges the Pharisees by asking if it is wrong to heal on the Sabbath.
At the dinner, Jesus observes people competing for the best seats and uses the moment to teach about humility. He advises taking a lower seat and waiting to be invited to a place of honor, a concept that can be challenging for those afraid of being overlooked.
True blessedness comes when we honor the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind as valued guests. By exalting them, we partake in the kingdom of God. While God’s kingdom is not fully here, it is already present in Jesus’ actions of fellowship and healing.
Join with us on Sunday, August 31 as we walk with Jesus and reflect on his teachings. We invite you to Come and See! Worship begins at 10 am. You can participate in worship via Facebook and YouTube as well as Zoom Meeting ID 870 3904 3303
