Come Holy Spirit

In John’s Gospel, the coming of the Holy Spirit is deeply connected to Jesus’ promise to send a Helper, or Advocate, to His disciples after His departure. John presents the Holy Spirit as the continuing presence of Jesus, guiding and teaching believers.

Jesus assures His disciples that though He will physically leave them, the Spirit will be sent by the Father in His name. The Spirit’s role is to teach, remind them of Jesus’ words, and convict the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:7-15).

John also uniquely describes an earlier moment when Jesus breathes on His disciples after His resurrection, saying, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). This act symbolizes the new life and mission they are given, foreshadowing the fuller experience of the Spirit’s power.

Join with us on Sunday, June 8 as we continue to celebrate the power of the resurrection and receive the Holy Spirit into our lives.
