In John 13:31-35, Jesus speaks to His disciples after Judas departs to betray Him. He tells them that He is about to be glorified, referring to His impending crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus emphasizes that His departure is near and that His disciples cannot follow Him at this moment.
He then gives them a new commandment: to love one another as He has loved them. This love is meant to be the defining characteristic of His followers, demonstrating their discipleship to the world. Through this passage, Jesus highlights the importance of selfless, sacrificial love within the Christian community.
