This passage highlights Jesus’ role as the Good Shepherd, the assurance of eternal life, and His oneness with the Father. It also underscores the contrast between belief and unbelief, as those who reject Him fail to recognize His divine authority.
John 10:22-30 takes place during the Festival of Dedication (Hanukkah) in Jerusalem. The Jewish leaders approach Him, demanding that He state plainly whether He is the Messiah. Jesus responds that He has already revealed His identity through His works, which testify that He is acting in His Father’s name. However, He tells them that they do not believe because they are not His sheep.
Jesus then describes His followers—His sheep—as those who hear His voice, follow Him, and receive eternal life. He assures them that no one can snatch them from His hand. Their security is in Him.
