In Luke 13:31-35, Jesus is warned by some Pharisees that Herod wants to kill Him, but Jesus responds fearlessly. He states that He must continue His mission of healing and driving out demons, emphasizing that His work must go on until its completion. Jesus calls Herod a “fox,” symbolizing cunning and deceit, and affirms His divine purpose.
Then Jesus shows that he is sad regarding the actions of those in Jerusalem. He expresses sorrow for the city’s history of rejecting prophets and messengers from God. He speaks of His desire to gather its people like a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, He concludes by saying that they will not see Him again until they proclaim, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”
This passage highlights Jesus’ courage, dedication to His mission, and deep compassion, even in the face of rejection showing his divine love and human resistance.
