Luke 4:1-13 recounts the profound moment when Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, is led into the wilderness to be tested by the devil. After fasting for forty days and nights, Jesus faces three temptations.
The first challenge is aimed at his physical hunger: Next, the devil offers him authority over all the kingdoms of the world, if Jesus will bow and worship him. Finally, the devil tests Jesus’ trust in God, urging him to throw himself from the temple’s pinnacle, quoting Scripture to suggest God will protect him.
This passage demonstrates Jesus’ unwavering obedience to God and his ability to counter temptations with the truth of Scripture. It also emphasizes the importance of relying on God’s Word and resisting the lures of power, pride, and earthly desires. It’s a powerful example of faith and resilience, showing how to stand firm in the face of challenges. When we direct our worship not towards food, wealth, power, the devil, or even ourselves, but to God, we find abundant life.
Our worship service begins at 10am on Sunday. All are welcome either in-person or on-line on Facebook and YouTube. The bulletin can be found on this website in the virtual bulletin tab. We look forward to seeing you as we travel with Jesus!
