Psalm 93 focuses on God’s kingship, emphasizing the meaning behind the phrases “God is King” or “LORD is King.” The first verse highlights God’s majesty and strength, establishing the world for eternity, resonating with Jesus’ statement in John about His kingdom being not of this world. The second verse moves beyond human concerns, depicting the intense and chaotic image of churning waters to show that even chaos obeys God, providing comfort in tumultuous times. The final verse connects God’s decrees with His eternal kingdom, illustrating that God’s commands and holiness are as constant.
The passage calls on humans to participate in God’s kingdom by being stewards of creation, praising God alongside all of creation. It underscores that God created everything out of self-giving love and rules the world consistently with that love. Jesus’ life and reign are marked by this self-giving love, and the Spirit of Life.
