After Jesus makes the miraculous meal, and feeds everyone until they can’t take another bite, we learn that there are 12 baskets of bread left over. When God provides there is always an abundance. The earth is God’s and everything in it. So of course, there would be lots of leftovers after a miracle of feeding 5000 is offered.
When you are hungry for more than food, hungry for a sign, go to your local bakery and smell the fresh scent of delicious bread. Next time you bite into toast with creamy butter, take it as a sign of God’s daily provision and care. And when you gather together around Christ’s table receiving the nourishing bread and wine, remember God’s promise that God will be with us until the end of time.
When you are present at a baptism, see the signs of water, oil, and light. Know that the Kingdom of God is a place of welcome and love for everyone, where are deepest needs are met through the power of God and the love of our Christian family.
Join us on Sunday as we move with the Gospel message from John on the feeding of the 5,000 and the joy of welcoming a new member into the Body of Christ through Baptism
