Jesus has compassion because they were like sheep without a shepherd. In other words, lost, lacking guidance. But more so, in need of care, of protection, of pasture, of tending, of nurture. But for Jesus, compassion is not just a feeling but a doing. And Jesus had to show his followers that compassion is inherent to discipleship.
The apostles need rest. They were worn out with the demands of ministry and the needs of others. The crowds were surrounding around Jesus, likely because they had learned of the death of his cousin John. Rest. A break from all the bustle and activity. Rest. A chance to renew, to stop, to slow. Rest. An end of work, if only for a little while. Rest. An opportunity to stop doing that you may simply be. Rest. What a beautiful word!
Join us on Sunday as we move with the Gospel message reflecting on a deeper meaning of the power of rest.
We begin worship at 10 am. All are welcome either in-person or on-line. The bulletin can be found on this website in the virtual bulletin tab. We look forward to seeing you!
