The parable in our Gospel this week is like the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. The man’s own death, which, we are told, will happen this same evening, comes with appalling swiftness. This is the only parable in Luke in which God directly addresses a someone. And what God says is this: “You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” (12:20). The Rich Farmer parable points to the futility of focusing on accumulating possessions instead of turning our focus to the blessings of God. Join us for reflection on this important topic.
