Jesus gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. Five thousand people took one man’s word for it.
Jesus is someone who changes lives when we encounter them. Five thousand people — not counting the women and children — found their lives so transformed in encountering Jesus that all their fears of dangers to be avoided gave way to enthusiasm for sharing the feast before them.
This miracle is not only one of being fed to fill stomachs, but also being fed in mind and spirit as well. The seeds of nourishment are powerful for the total health of everyone.
