The Birth of Jesus Foretold<\/span><\/h5>\n

26\u00a0<\/sup>In the sixth month of Elizabeth\u2019s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel\u00a0to Nazareth,\u00a0a town in Galilee,<\/span>\u00a027\u00a0<\/sup>to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph,\u00a0a descendant of David. The virgin\u2019s name was Mary.<\/span>\u00a028\u00a0<\/sup>The angel went to her and said, \u201cGreetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

29\u00a0<\/sup>Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.<\/span>\u00a030\u00a0<\/sup>But the angel said to her, \u201cDo not be afraid,\u00a0Mary; you have found favor with God.<\/span>\u00a031\u00a0<\/sup>You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.<\/span>\u00a032\u00a0<\/sup>He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.\u00a0The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,<\/span>\u00a033\u00a0<\/sup>and he will reign over Jacob\u2019s descendants forever; his kingdom\u00a0will never end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

34\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHow will this be,\u201d Mary asked the angel, \u201csince I am a virgin?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

35\u00a0<\/sup>The angel answered, \u201cThe Holy Spirit will come on you,\u00a0and the power of the Most High\u00a0will overshadow you. So the holy one\u00a0to be born will be called the Son of God.<\/span>\u00a036\u00a0<\/sup>Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child\u00a0in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.<\/span>\u00a037\u00a0<\/sup>For no word from God will ever fail.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cI am the Lord\u2019s servant,\u201d Mary answered. \u201cMay your word to me be fulfilled.\u201d Then the angel left her.<\/span><\/p>\n

Question for family conversation-Even though the angel tells Mary not to be afraid, do you think she was afraid?\u00a0 What do you think helped Mary to say yes to the angel?<\/strong><\/p>\n
