John 6:1-14-Jesus Feeds The 5000-New International Version<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sometime after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias),<\/span>\u00a02\u00a0<\/sup>and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs, he had performed by healing the sick.<\/span>\u00a03\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus went up on a mountainside\u00a0and sat down with his disciples.<\/span>\u00a04\u00a0<\/sup>The Jewish Passover Festival was near.\u00a0<\/span>5\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip,\u00a0\u201cWhere shall we buy bread for these people to eat?\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a06\u00a0<\/sup>He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

7\u00a0<\/sup>Philip answered him, \u201cIt would take more than half a year\u2019s wages\u00a0to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

8\u00a0<\/sup>Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter\u2019s brother,\u00a0spoke up,<\/span>\u00a09\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHere is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>10\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cHave the people sit down.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there).<\/span>\u00a011\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>12\u00a0<\/sup>When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples,\u00a0\u201cGather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a013\u00a0<\/sup>So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>14\u00a0<\/sup>After the people saw the sign\u00a0Jesus performed, they began to say, \u201cSurely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPhilip, where can we buy bread to feed all these people,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Jesus asked. Did anyone other than Jesus really know?<\/p>\n

Where can we buy bread to feed all these people Lord? They\u2019ve come such a long way. And they\u2019re hungry. They need a place to stay. They\u2019re so many\u2026and they need so much.\u00a0 \u00a0Where can we buy bread to feed\u00a0all<\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0these people?<\/p>\n

Some of these folks are ones we know\u2026some are relatives. Others we\u2019ve never seen before. They\u2019re people just like us. But still, how can we care for them all?\u00a0\u00a0Some have children. Others are elderly. Many haven\u2019t heard from their families and don\u2019t know if they\u2019re all right. Where will they stay? What will they eat? Where will they go when it\u2019s all over? And How in the world can we show love to so many Lord?<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0And Andrew points out that there\u2019s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. BUT what good is that with this huge crowd?\u00a0\u00a0What in the world can we do Lord?<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what we have. But it seems so tiny compared to what\u2019s really needed. Can five barley loaves and two fish really make a difference?<\/p>\n

Lord, we\u2019re overwhelmed by the great need along with our great desire to help out. We want to help. But who? And every time we do something, we feel like we need to help someone else because we haven\u2019t done enough.<\/p>\n

OK Jesus, we\u2019ll have them sit. And then we\u2019ll give thanks for what we have. And then we\u2019ll give out of the little we have and see what happens.<\/p>\n

And Jesus fed the multitudes\u2026just as he\u2019ll feed the multitudes today. But he\u2019ll do it through faithful servants willing to pray, give thanks, and share out of their bounty with those who\u2019ve lost everything.<\/p>\n

Jesus used that boy and what little he had. And he\u2019ll use you too. You see, what you give may seem like a little when you compare it to the thousands of homeless refugees.\u00a0But how do you think it looks to that one person you help? It looks like a miracle. And you know, that\u2019s exactly what it is.<\/p>\n
